The controversial track closures in the Waitakere Ranges, and particularly in the PIha. Anawhata and Karekare areas has led to much grief in our community and wider afield.
Your CoastCare Trust members have been keeping up-to-date on the Council’s decisions on this issue. We have liaised with people carrying out research on both the legal and scientific aspects of the closures, and also with the rangers to keep up to date with the progress towards track openings. Council is implementing work progressively and tracks will gradually be opened as the precautionary work to protect Kauri is completed. Whites Track is substantially completed should open within the next few weeks.
Work on bringing Te Ahu Ahu track up to standard will commence at the end of March.
