Dune Restoration Trust Conference

One of the events Coastcare members look forward to each year is the Dunes Trust conference where scientists, council staff members, DOC officers and Coastcare groups from around the country meet for lectures, field trips and a general comparing of notes and experiences.

Three Piha Coastcare members, together with Neil Henderson from  our Local Board attended this year, on the beautiful eastern Coromandel coast.

We were treated to some outstanding presentations and the extensive field visits were inspirational.  We were envious of the commitment of the Thames-Coromandel Council to developing true partnerships with local community groups, empowering and supporting them in their dune and coastal restoration projects.  It became very clear to us during the field trips that the partnership between Coromandel resident and consultant Jim Dahm , the Council and local Coastcare groups has produced numerous outstanding restoration sites.

Neil Henderson has produced an excellent detailed account of the conference in his report to the Local Board if you would like to read more http://infocouncil.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/Open/2015/05/WTK_20150514_AGN_4693_AT.PDF
