Learn about and explore Piha Stream and Lagoon Event

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the water quality of our streams and lagoons.  On Monday 8th February there will be an opportunity to learn more about this issue.  Come along and get an update on progress towards cleaning up our lagoons to make them safe for people as well as native flora and fauna.

Participate in this project by giving feedback and learning more about what is being done and how.

Where: Piha Domain, Piha (access off Seaview Rd)
When: 9.30am – 2.30pm Monday 8th February 2016
Cost: Free

Activities include:
• Guided walks and talks with expert ecologists – learn about fish and other critters in and around the stream. (10am, 12pm and 2pm)
• Water testing demonstrations (11am, 1pm)
• Information stalls and sausage sizzle.
• Experts on hand to answer questions about local wildlife, septic tanks and other issues.

The council have told us that their fish expert Matt Bloxham is full of interesting stories about the interesting fish to be found in the west coast streams, and their Wai Care coordinator Ruby Moore knows all about the smaller critters in our streams as well and can show you how to test the water quality too.

Fish walks and talks will be at 10, 12 and 2 leaving from the eel bridge.  Wai Care experiences will be at 11 and 1, meeting at Sir Algernon Reserve on Glen Esk Rd.

More information is available on the Love Our Lagoons Facebook page where you will also be able to register in advance for the activities and tours (optional).
